Kevin Hartman

I am Kevin Hartman. Born in the year 1408, I am the only son of an English seafaring father. My mother, Clara, was the daughter of an Italian textile merchant. My father, John Hartman, found archers quite useful in helping protect his ship from unsavory pirates. And so, wishing his son able to serve his country as well as learn a useful trade, he sent me to learn the skill from some of the Kings best bowmen.

Alas, I lost both my parents to a vicious storm that sank my father's ship in the year 1418. What small wealth my father had went to pay the creditors of his lost ship and cargo. Orphaned and with no inheritance, I had few options. Although the monks at a nearby parrish took me in and taught me my letters, I left the monastary to continue my archery training at age 14. Realizing that I had no one but myself to rely on for the long term, I spent part of my time learning some cooking and healing from the various cooks, mothers, and herbalists who provided such skills during my military training.

As an adult, I served my King as well as many, being niether distinguished nor disgraced. Suffice to say that, since I'm writing this, I survived. I married Caroline, the daughter of a baker, and sired two children. Though I see my children infrequently at best, I'm always welcomed by them and, of course, their children, when I visit them near Cambridge. Sadly, Caroline was lost to us from illness some fifteen years past.

During my travels in the late 1440's, I met a seemingly well trained Free Company called the Archers of Ravenwood, led by Captain Anton. Interestingly, he is a landholder not far from where my son and daughter live, though I had not met him before now.

Having still some skill with a bow stood me well with Anton and his Lieutanents, even though my joints ache some and I'm not as battle-ready as I once was. He has seen fit to engage me as a preceptor, an instructor for the younger archers. Additionally, my experience with household staff as well as cooking has proven quite useful. Even as my years advance more quickly than I would prefer, I count myself fortunate indeed to have such employment and fellowship.
